Still Here?

Yes, I am still here. Wow, it has been a month since my last post. Which shows we have been super busy getting ready for the holidays. We had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's although we lost a dear family member, Mark's grandmother. Gage turned 9 months old and you wouldn't believe what he is up to these days. And I am swamped at work with changing computer systems and closing year end. All this being said, I promise to post some new pictures and updates as soon as I can.

Stay tuned!

Eight months

Gage in the big bath tub Just kidding.
He was making such a mess on the bathroom counter, that I had to move his tub into the big tub
Check out the water movement in the background. He loves to kick and splash. It gets mommy all wet!
My cutie pie Just want to kiss all over those cheeks
Okay, moving on to another cute hat day.
With Nana on the sidelines watching soccer
And Papa
Couldn't keep his little peepers open
Cort and Gage
My three sons
Gage with Aunt Kerrie

Okay, so each month I sit the boys down to take pictures to record Gage's growth. This month it was especially difficult since little man has begun to crawl. He started crawling the evening of November 24, just 2 days after he turned 8 months. As you can see he can now get away from me and the camera. He is especially interested in his sign.
You can't get me
Okay, I'll sit still, but I won't look at the camera
So I called in re-enforcements to help corral the kid and get him to smile.
I am not sure it worked, but it was fun to watch
Happy 8 months!
I took Gage to the doctor for the second dose of the flu shot. He weighed 20 lbs 6 oz.Keaton at 8 months
(still taking baths on the counter top also)
Cort at 8 months

Discussion with Cort

Last night I was reading to the kids from Keaton's new Bible and then talking to the kids. Cort and I had this discussion and it was too cute not to write down.

Cort-What we will eat in heaven?
Me-God will provide all we need.
Cort-Is there ice cream in heaven?
Me-Maybe, and probably things even better than ice cream.
Cort-What is better than ice cream?

Thanksgiving 2010

Gage finally made his first trip to Gilmer for Thanksgiving. I started off the trip taking pictures as we hit the road and then I don't know what happened. I never picked up the camera again. I even had intentions of us getting dressed up and taking family photos while at my mom's, but just couldn't muster the energy I suppose.

Cort and Gage headed to Gee and Papa Dan's Keaton riding 3rd row. As you can see, we were dressed in our Aggie gear, all 5 of us since the big game was that evening. Proud to say we BTHO t.u. this year. WHOOP!
My 1st road trip. This is fun!
Are we there yet?
I found it humorous the number of times Keaton and Cort asked.
"Are we almost there?"
"How much longer?"
"When are we going to be there?"
"Is this Gee's town?"
"Are we in Gilmerd yet?"--not a typo, that's how they say Gilmer.

All kidding aside, they all did great on the trip. Gage slept several hours as did Cort. Keaton may have taken a small nap here and there. When Gage was awake Cort and Keaton entertained him. I love it when they can make him laugh. Sometimes he gets started laughing the baby belly laugh and then EVERYTHING is funny.

When we left Houston it was hot and we watched the temperature drop as we drove through the cold front. When we arrived in Gilmer (now I can't even say Gilmer in my head with out hearing Gilmerd) it was freezing. This could have something to do with why I didn't take any more pictures. I extremely dislike cold weather and even though the boys ventured outside some Friday and Saturday, Gage and I hunkered down inside where it was toasty warm.

We scheduled our big Thanksgiving feast for Friday, so after we arrived Thursday afternoon, we settled in, unpacked, and watched football. Keaton and I brushed up on our Monopoly skills. I hadn't played Monopoly in forever. Looking back, I don't think I played it correctly as a kid. Keaton loves games and he did great being the banker, counting the money and adding. I think the final outcome was Keaton took all my money when I landed on Park Place that he had a hotel on. Smart kid!

Friday we stuffed ourselves as you should on Thanksgiving although we gave the turkey a pardon and had ham. And then Gee, Cort and Keaton threw on their coats and headed outside. They played basketball in the carport, played on the backyard play set, and then headed to the pasture where she taught them to drive.....the golf cart that is. They took turns going round and round the pasture and around the shop driveway. They loved it and didn't care how cold it was. (Perfect photo opp---bad mommy for not taking any pictures.)

Friday night Mark, Keaton, Cort and Gee had fun putting together a 250 piece Bakugan puzzle at the kitchen table while Gage and I hung out. We missed Aunt Kerrie, Casey, and Uncle Scott, but Casey had to work and Kerrie spent Thanksgiving vacationing in Canada, oooh la-la.

Saturday morning, we headed home early but not before they took the golf cart out for one more spin.....or two. The frost was still on the grass and their noses and hands were red and frozen when they returned.

The trip back to Houston was uneventful until we had an unexpected run in while in Navasota. We took a different route to Houston since we were headed straight to the ranch for Thanksgiving with Mark's family. We stopped for gas in Navasota and cannot believe who pulled up next to us. Rebecca Barham Gay and her brand new little Ansley. Becky is my childhood friend. We grew up on the same county road, went to school and church together, went off to college together, were each other's bridesmaids, etc. Unfortunately, as it often happens, we have not seen each other in 6 years. We were supposed to visit them the weekend before Thanksgiving to meet little Ansley, but our plans fell through when my company called a workday that Saturday. Needless to say our astonishment when I watched the car pull up next to us and saw her get out to pump gas. Unfortunately, Brad was working but we did get to see little Ansley, their first daughter. I am so ecstatic for Becky and Brad as they have been through a lot the last 6 years. Brad received a liver transplant from a living donor, and has made a full recovery.

Then on to the ranch we headed. Even though we missed the meal, we were able to visit with Mark's brother's family, Mark's aunt and uncle and cousins both from the Austin area. In addition to spending some time with Mark's parents, 93 year old grandparents and extended family members from out of state. I am glad we made the trip back early as Mark's grandmother is now in the hospital and appears to have a lengthy stay ahead of her to recover from an infection and blood clot in her legs.

What is a trip to the ranch without a play in the hay. We can thank Mark for snapping some pics

Here are just a few things I am thankful for this year:

1. My wonderful husband and beautiful sons.

2. Our health and I don't take this lightly. I am so grateful that we are all healthy and thriving.

3. Our jobs. Yes, I am thankful that I have a job even though my heart's desire is to be at home.

4. Our home. It may not be brand new, decorated like a picture in a magazine, (or clean much), but it is filled with love, happiness, laughter, activities, and warmth. It is the home that I brought all 3 of my children home from the hospital, where I spent 4 wonderful years being a stay at home mom, where the older 2 have learned to ride a bike in the cul-de-sac, and have started school. We have outgrown the space, but how will I ever leave these memories behind.

5. Keaton's new found salvation this year and the sacrifice our Saviour made for us.

Keaton's Baptism

For over a year now Keaton has been telling us he believes in Jesus, he has prayed to accept Jesus as his Savior, and that he wanted to be baptized. We took it slow continuing to talk with him, Mark and I took a class at church, as did Keaton leading up to his baptism at the end of November. It just so happened that Keaton's friends Abi and Levi were being baptized also the same Sunday

Buried with Christ.
Raised to walk in newness of life.
We are so very proud of Keaton's decision
Mark and I presented Keaton with a new Bible in which he has been enjoying reading.

Dear Heavenly Father,
I thank you for this wonderful day in which we celebrated the salvation of our son Keaton. Thank You for sending Your Son as our precious Saviour. I pray You will fill Keaton's heart with a desire to love, know, honor and serve You. And that Keaton will lead a life that will bring honor and glory to You.
Amen

Our First Rock Concert

For an early Christmas present Aunt Kerrie took us all, minus Gage, to the boy's first rock concert. Christian rock concert that is, but none the less, definitely a rock concert experience. Cort, Kerrie, and Keaton waiting for it to begin
Bring on TobyMac!
First up, Shonlock
He was pretty good and had great dance moves
Then Skillet
Skillet was very loud, but awesome and put on a great show. The safety girl in me could have done without all the fire. I was really praying nothing would go wrong needing me to exist quickly. Keaton looked a little nervous too. It was so loud that you felt it throughout your body. I was hoping for loud so we could rock out, but it was LOUD!! Poor little Cortie, it was just too much for him. Soon after Skillet started Mark took him and Keaton on a walk and found some earplugs. Aunt Kerrie had also caught a T-Shirt the DJ's from a N-Gen, a new Christian radio station out of the College Station area, threw into the audience. Cort put in the earplugs and we wrapped the T-shirt around his head.
I think he was so overwhelmed by it all that he just physically shut down and went to sleep. He slept through the majority of Skillet and TobyMac. The kids love TobyMac, but I think the concert was a little much for Cort. I have to remember he is only 5.
TobyMac
TobyMac was still loud, but it was a relief from the piercing loudness of Skillet.
It was a fun experience nevertheless and created a memory for the boys. I look forward to rocking out with them at more (Christian) concerts in the future. I am thankful for TobyMac, Skillet, and other Christian artists. The kids today have a lot of options that appeal to youth now in the Christian genre. When I was young there were not many artists and the Christian artists out there didn't seem to make attempts to attract teens.
