Well, we survived our first year as Longhorns. We had a really good year at Lowery and I love it just as much (if not more) as I did Copeland. We made it through the whole year without purchasing a longhorn t-shirt although the kids did buy a couple of Lowery notepads from the spirit cart. The kids are in good humor about our detest for their mascot. As you can see in the picture below, Keaton is sporting an Aggie football shirt. Even when Keaton was asked to write about Camp Longhorn, he changed it to Camp A&M. They know ultimately we were Lowery Proud parents, but didn't want them falling in love with that symbol with horns. (unless they are sawed off!)

The kids dressed up in their finest cowboy gear for Rodeo Day. I went to Cort's presentation with the camera, while Mark went later in the day to Keaton's presentation with the camcorder. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of Keaton to share on the blog.

| Keaton and Gabriel were both in Ms. Hansen's class. They started off the year wrong with an incident on the playground, but became fast friends. The teachers soon learned the two together were a recipe for mischief. When discussing blue card notes sent home from the teachers, Gabriel's name came up a lot. Not sure who was the instigator, maybe they were both just looking for trouble. By the second semester we had straightened out some behavioral patterns and started seeing Keaton make better decisions. We had to remind ourselves that Keaton is one of the youngest in his class therefore maturity may play a factor in his decision making and behavior. |

I think Kevin made the transition to Lowery easy for Keaton. They were not in the same homeroom class (probably a good thing), but were in each other's switch classes. |
In April we attended Lowery Family Fun Night. It is a night of carnival type games and silent auctions to raise money. The kids had a blast and were so excited to win a goldfish as a prize. Yes, we came home that night with 2 goldfish. Unfortunately, only one survived the first week. RIP Chum-Chum. And this is were Swimmy lived the first month....my blue mixing bowl.
We have now upgraded his home to a beautiful fish bowl and he lives in our bathroom. He was on the kitchen counter, but he was getting in my way. I'm afraid if we put him upstairs in the kid's bathroom, we will forget to feed him. Every morning upon entering the bathroom, Swimmy is fast to tell me he is hungry. I hear him at the top of the water making little gulping noises.
The end of the year was filled with many activities including the Second Grade Music Program.

Then there was the Second Grade Wax Museum. Keaton did a research project on Sitting Bull. Then he dressed up as the famous person and memorized a speech about his life. As people walked through the 'wax museum' they pushed the buttons hanging around their necks and they came to life.

Now on to Kindergarten Graduation. Cort was so excited and proud to have us and Nana and PawPaw watching him graduate. We had already spent two nights at the school for Keaton and now it was his turn.

Hooray! I made it through my first year of school.
Yes, you started off the school year with nervous stomach but as you adjusted to being a Kindergartner, it got better.
You may remember at the beginning of the the year, Cort told me not to come have lunch with him because it upset him too much. I took him lunch for his birthday in January and he did fine so I was able to have lunch with him a few more times before school was out.
